I wanted to see as much of the island as possible, so today I got up early to wander before breakfast. Andelen didn't serve food, so the hotel the others were staying at provided breakfast for the whole group. I left around 6AM and just wandered. I met up with another tour mate, and we walked for a few hours until breakfast. We went up and down all the streets, down to the waterfront to look at the boats. We noticed there was a hut of some sort, and it looked like people were doing cold plunges. We wandered back down to the ferry terminal and picked up a few things at the grocery store - we were having a happy hour at Andelen tonight so we wanted to pick up a few things. The town was starting to wake up by then, and we wondered if there was a bakery or coffee shop. We turned a corner and smelled something good, so we followed our noses and found a bakery that had just opened! They didn't have coffee, but I did buy some loose leaf tea for my sister as a souvenir. We walked a few more streets and then headed to the hotel for breakfast, which was delicious.
My favorite part was all of the different color and styles of doors! Some of the houses also had dog statues in the windows - we were told they were to notify visitors if the sailor of the home was at home or not. If the statues were facing in, the man of the house was home. If they faced out, the man of the house was not home. I looked everywhere to buy some but couldn't find any.
We had a free morning, so most people met back at Andelen to rent bikes for the morning. After Adam, Andelen's owner, mapped out a route for us, he got us all set up with bikes and helmets. I set out with a few other tour mates, and we rode along a path for about an hour and a half. I was worried about getting back on time to meet the bus for lunch, so while some others kept going, I turned back. I had a leisurely ride back, and managed to get back without getting lost! I turned my bike in and then had to take a shower because I was so dusty from the bike path. It was a nice way to spend the morning, and I liked seeing other parts of the island.
I cleaned up and walked to meet the group in the town square. I had a few minutes, so I went to the store that I had wanted to come back to for souvenirs. I bought a shirt for my dad with the distillery logo on it, and the girl wrapped it up in a cute cloth bag, telling me "don't worry if it doesn't fit, you can always return it!" I laughed at that, that would be a long drive for a return! We drove for a few minutes to a restaurant, where we had a delicious lunch served by a really friendly family. We sat outside, and it was a great start to the afternoon. There was a church nearby, so we all walked over after lunch and sat inside and listened to someone playing the organ.
We all hopped back onto the bus and Pinge, our bus driver, drove to a viewpoint overlooking the cliffs.
Pinge dropped us off again in town, and I walked back to Andelen. I sat outside on the patio with some snacks, and was joined by a cat who also wanted to relax. Adam, Andelen's owner, began setting up for a happy hour, and like Pinge and his picnics, was so prepared! The whole group met back at Andelen, and we had a nice evening outside. Those staying at the hotel wanted a tour of our rooms and were surprised at how nice it was! Everyone went their own ways, and I sat outside for a bit then went to wander. When I got back, Adam gave those of us staying there a keychain with a carved keychain made by a friend in Nepal. He said it was his business card and it was one of my favorite souvenirs! We had a very early morning, so I packed as much as I could and headed to bed. I was so sad to leave in the morning!
