I started off my day with a quick workout in the hotel gym, followed by another delicious hotel breakfast. The hotel were so friendly and attentive. Our group met our local guide for the morning, and we walked to the City Hall where we went through an extensive security checkpoint. Once inside, we were able to see the Nobel Peace Prize banquet hall. Before this, I didn't know that the Nobel Prizes and Peace Prizes were given in different places, and it was interesting to see both. We were then led down to the waterfront to the Opera house, but it wasn't open yet. Some of us ran into the public library for a bathroom break, and it was a beautiful, huge library. The tour continued on, but the local guide was not the most interesting, so I broke off from the group early. I had booked a tour on an electric boat! The boat was fancy and the views were incredible.
Following the boat tour, I had a little bit of time to run back to the hotel before my next stop, a food tour! I had been disappointed by food tours on other trips, so I stopped for a sandwich on my way to the hotel just in case, followed by an ice cream. I headed across town to find the meeting point for the tour. We met in front of a food hall, and our first stop was a traditional meat stand. We sampled reindeer sausage, moose sausage and minke whale sausage, lingonberry jam and aquavit jelly and traditional cheese. The whale sausage was actually delicious! We then walked along a river and park to the last standing traditional Norwegian hot dog stand, where we had a hot dog wrapped in a potato flatbread and locally made cola. Both were incredible. We then walked to a hot chocolate bar, and had a deliciously creamy hot chocolate. Our last stop was a waffle stand, where we had waffles served with sour cream, lingonberries and traditional cheese. It was the perfect mix of sweet and savory. I walked back to the hotel; it was a long walk but I had a lot to walk off! I picked up my hotel laundry and headed in for the night.
