Another long travel day, but this one included more beautiful views and even a boat! We had a later start to the day, which was nice because I had no sleep. There was a group of motorcycles roaring up and down the street in front of my room all night. After a not so great hotel breakfast, we were given supplies to make sandwiches for another picnic lunch. We packed up and left the hotel, and Pinge and Heidi had a surprise for us. After a terrifying bus ride a mountain with insane hairpin turns, we arrived at Steigastein lookout. We were all slightly motion sick and amazed that Pinge could drive that massive bus up the side of a mountain! The views made up for the terrifying ride - there was a walkway that extended out over the cliff and it was crystal clear out. The bathroom even had a view!
The trip back down wasn't much better, but there was a picnic waiting at the bottom! We parked near the water, and Pinge and Heidi again had quite the set up. We enjoyed lunch in the sun, and then had time to wander through the town. There was a shop selling beautiful glass sculptures that was very popular among my tour mates.
Our next stop was Flam, where we had a fjord tour scheduled. We had some time in Flam before the boat left, but it was incredibly busy with tourists and tacky tourist shops. The ice cream was great though! It was a similar boat to one I rode in Oslo, but very crowded with mostly standing room only outside. The views were incredible, so no one minded standing.
Pinge had driven ahead in the bus to where the boat docked, and was waiting for us when we arrived. We boarded the bus and set off towards Bergen, going through an insane amount of tunnels on the way! We had one rest stop at a beautiful waterfall, and then finally arrived in Bergen around 8pm. The hotel was the same chain as our hotel in Oslo, and was again very nice. It was a few blocks away from Bryggen, the historical area of the city and I was excited to explore it tomorrow. I dropped my bags and ran towards the waterfront to look for dinner. I found an area with food stalls and got a delicious salmon burger. I wandered through the food stands after, and tried a waffle. I walked through town for awhile, then headed to bed. Bus days are long and exhausting!
