After another delicious hotel breakfast, we headed out to the hotel courtyard to meet our local guide for the day. Our guide was from the US, but married a Dane and had been living in Copenhagen for many years. We walked all morning, ending our tour around noon in a major pedestrian area. We had the rest of the day to ourselves.
After leaving the group, I had to try a hot dog from one of the many stands I had seen all over town. I spotted a souvenir shop, where I had to buy my next souvenir mug. I had booked myself on 2 tours this afternoon, so I headed back to the hotel to rest for a few minutes before heading out for a canal boat tour. I was lucky enough to sneak onto a boat leaving earlier than the one I had booked. The tour was a few hours long, and took us around the harbor in a loop. The guide was very animated, and it was well worth the money. Copenhagen was beautiful from the water, and I had a nice afternoon in the sun.
After the canal tour, I had about an hour before the next tour started. I wandered down the canal from our hotel and made a pit stop for the 2nd best ice cream of the trip: banana chocolate chip. I then headed out for my bike food tour. The bike shop was a few minutes' walk from the hotel and very easy to find. I waited a few minutes for everyone to arrive, and we got fitted for our bikes and helmets if we wanted them (yes, I did, especially after seeing how fast people ride their bikes). There were 2 couples from England, and 2 couples from Germany on the tour, and our guide was a graduate student from England who was interning with the United Nations. We had a brief lesson in bike etiquette in Copenhagen and then set off. Our first stop was an organic hot dog stand, which was delicious. Our next stop was a food hall, where we went to a beer stand that sold local Copenhagen beers. I had a delicious passionfruit gose that hit the spot and made the bike ride a little easier. Our next stop was a stand where we had a delicious smørrebrød and drinks. We then sampled various chocolates at a chocolate stand. We left the food hall and rode to an outdoor cafe, where we had a different version of smørrebrød and aquavit (which made the bike ride even more easy!) Our last stop was a bakery in the basement of a department store, where we sampled pastries. I couldn't believe what a good value this tour was, I didn't even have room for dinner! It was fairly late when the tour ended, so I wandered back to the hotel and got ready for the next day. I had no idea that I would love Copenhagen so much!
